MESA, Ariz. - Despite poor weather forecasts for Thursday afternoon, the A’s and Mariners will attempt to get in at least a portion of their Cactus League opener at Hohokam Stadium
It was widely expected that the game would be called early because of day-long rain expected in the Phoenix area, but a break in the weather at the scheduled noon Pacific start time changed plans.
There is also rain in Friday’s forecast, and the A’s and Mariners have a short spring training this season because of their season-opening series in Japan next month. That accelerated schedule makes losing two games to rain potentially problematic.
