BRISTOL, R.I. (AP) — Massachusetts' first woman of color to serve as a district attorney will speak at Roger Williams University to mark Martin Luther King Jr. Day.
Suffolk County DA Rachael Rollins will deliver the annual MLK Jr. lecture at the Rhode Island university's law school on Jan. 23.
Rollins was elected in November as the first female top prosecutor in Suffolk County, which includes Boston, and the first woman of color to be elected to that role anywhere in Massachusetts. The former state and federal prosecutor ran on a platform of criminal justice reform.
The Rhode Island appearance will be one of Rollins' first major speaking engagements since being sworn in earlier this month.
