Scientists have announced the possible transition of COVID-19 into a chronic form

Many patients who have undergone mild coronavirus without hospitalization experience certain symptoms for months after infection and become dependent on care, a group of Belgian and Dutch scientists found out.

The study involved 1837 easily ill COVID-19. Scientists investigated the process and the rate of their recovery after the infection. They found that a very small proportion of the study participants (7.7%) needed help from outsiders in their daily activities before becoming infected. However, after infection, an average of 79 days after the onset of symptoms, this need increased significantly (52.4%), the scientists found. Just over 30% of the study participants were found to be care addicted.

The study authors suggested that COVID-19 be considered chronic if symptoms persist for more than 12 weeks.

The researchers concluded that COVID-19 has a big impact on patients with mild disease. “Approximately three months after the onset of symptoms, a significant proportion of non-hospitalized patients were more or less dependent on others for personal care. This indicates that the impact of COVID-19 on patients ‘daily lives is enormous and that more attention needs to be paid to identifying treatment strategies to restore patients’ independence, ”the scientists said.
