Belarusian opposition reveals action plan in case of Lukashenka’s refusal to leave office
The Belarusian opposition will increase its activity as the term of the “people’s ultimatum” to the authorities of the republic on October 26 expires. This was announced by a member of the Presidium of the Coordination Council Pavel Latushko, RIA Novosti reports.
According to him, the opposition has a “worked out plan of action” in case the President of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko refuses to leave office by October 26. At the same time, the politician refused to disclose the details of the policies.
A member of the Presidium of the Coordinating Council added that the corresponding action program was worked out last week. He explained that it was approved by all the leaders of the initiatives, structures “which represent civil society in Belarus.”
Latushko noted that from now on every day clear signals will be received from the opposition. “Our actions are aimed at the implementation of this ultimatum, and the authorities must understand that the number of actions and initiatives will only grow,” the opposition representative said.
Earlier, the former candidate for the presidency of Belarus Svetlana Tikhanovskaya presented an “ultimatum” to the current Belarusian authorities, indicating that all enterprises would start a strike in the country if the key demands of the opposition were not met. Among such demands, in particular, is Lukashenka’s resignation.
For the third month in Belarus, mass protests have been taking place over the official results of the August 9 presidential elections, according to which Alexander Lukashenko, who is running for a sixth term, won 80 percent of the vote. The protesters were supported by the workers of a number of enterprises, announcing the strike.
