Chivu: ‘Inter must learn from mistakes, one defeat changes nothing’
Cristian Chivu insists Inter must ‘learn from our mistakes and go forward with confidence’ against Atalanta, because ‘one defeat isn’t going to change’ anything.
It kicks off at San Siro at 14.00 GMT (15.00 CET).
The Nerazzurri saw their lead at the top of the Serie A table cut to seven points by defeat to second-placed Milan, so the pressure is back on them to keep that advantage intact.
Chivu has faith in Inter progress
“We must get back to doing what we did throughout the season, with tempo and intensity. There are exceptions, but we must learn from our mistakes and go forward with confidence,” Chivu told DAZN Italia.
Atalanta are a high press team too, and also use a three-man defence, but Marcus Thuram returns to the Inter attack after missing the Milan clash.
“Thuram trained well, he recovered from the problem he had with a fever before the derby. He is back to 100 per cent and an important player for us.”
Alessandro Bastoni is only fit for the bench, Lautaro Martinez and Hakan Calhanoglu are out of action, but the big news is the return of Denzel Dumfries to the starting XI for the first time since his ankle surgery in November 2025.
Versatile Carlos Augusto therefore steps into the back three to replace Bastoni.
“I am not worried by a defeat, my worry has always been about building this team, taking the right direction and achieving our targets. We’ve always said we want to be competitive to the end and one defeat isn’t going to change that.
“We need to keep going with even more determination and confidence,” concluded Chivu.
