49ers defensive end Keion White shot in ankle in San Francisco, team says

SAN FRANCISCO — San Francisco 49ers defensive end Keion White was shot in the ankle early Monday in San Francisco, though the injury is not believed to be serious.

The 49ers said in a statement that White “was a victim of a shooting” and is undergoing surgery at a local hospital. The team said it would provide further updates when appropriate.

White, 29, was acquired in October from the New England Patriots for a sixth-round draft pick. He appeared in nine games for San Francisco, making two starts and recording 12 tackles and 1 1/2 sacks.

Drafted in the second round in 2023 out of Georgia Tech, the 6-foot-5, 290-pound defensive end — who played 319 snaps for the 49ers in 2025 — remains under contract through the 2026 season.

San Francisco police said officers were called just after 4 a.m. to a business on Mission Street near 13th Street for reports of a shooting and found a victim with an apparent gunshot wound. The person was taken to a hospital with injuries that were not believed to be life-threatening, according to Officer Paulina Henderson.

Police said the shooting followed an argument between two groups inside the business. No arrests have been made.

White attended Super Bowl 60 on Sunday and shared photos on Instagram on Monday, including one of him wearing a Patriots cap in the north end zone stands. Fans left messages wishing him well in the comments.

White is the second 49ers player be shot in San Francisco in the past two years. Wide receiver Ricky Pearsall was shot in the chest during a robbery attempt Aug. 31, 2024. He was hospitalized overnight and later returned to play 11 games as a rookie first-round draft pick out of Florida.
