Chris Eubank Jr and Conor Benn are at an impasse as Eubank demands 55/45 split of the money.
Chris Eubank Jr spends some time talking about where things stand in negotiations for a fight against Conor Benn, his alternative plan to pursue Erislandy Lara, why he hasn’t yet fought Canelo Alvarez and finally why Terence Crawford should have to go through him before getting a shot at Canelo. Here’s some of what Eubank had to say below.
“Of course they don’t want to budge. These guys, their greed is what’s stopping the fight from happening. The bottom line is the A-side doesn’t split 50/50 with the B-side and I am the A-side. Once they comes to terms with that then the fight will be made.”
“Absolutely. We want those belts and Lara, he has the belt.”
“We were in deep negotiations but it came down to timing and it came down to money, both of which we were not happy with. So we decided to put a pin in it, knock off a couple of these big fights, and then when we come back to Canelo next year there will be no denying what we want, what we feel is fair...we were being downplayed in the negotiations last year.”
“I think Canelo is too big. It doesn’t make sense. I’ve said before I’d love to fight Terence. I think that if he was ever going to be able to get into the ring with Canelo, he’d need to step up and fight me first. If he was able to get through me then he can go for Canelo but they wouldn’t do that because they know what would happen.”
