I don’t think Sammy Sosa ever had to apologize, but on Thursday he did and I’m happy that one of the best players in team history will be welcomed back to the family. The former Chicago Cubs slugger issued a public statement that included a vague, but we all know what he was talking about, apology about his alleged PED use.
Here is Sosa’s full statement.

Despite being the franchise’s all-time home run leader, Sosa has not been welcomed back by the team since his playing days ended. Current Cubs ownership has always said they wanted Sosa to apologize and now that he has, the Ricketts has invited the slugger back.

“We appreciate Sammy releasing his statement and for reaching out. No one played harder or wanted to win more. Nobody’s perfect but we never doubted his passion for the game and the Cubs. It is an understatement to say that Sammy is a fan favorite. “We plan on inviting him to the 2025 Cubs Convention and, while it is short notice, we hope that he can attend. We are all ready to move forward together.”
Sammy Sosa is back. It’s been far too long and the Cubs should retire #21 in his honor.
I’m not alone. Born in the early 90s, Sosa was THE reason I and so many other people even became Cubs fans in the first place. Getting into the steroid debate is a whole big thing, but it never sat well with me that those guys were being left behind and forgotten about when the league itself profited the most and made them out to be the worst of the worst.
But hey, Tom got his apology and maybe you wanted one as well. It happened and now we can all move forward.
