Jake Paul does not care about anyone complaining about his decision win over Mike Tyson.
In November, Paul defeated Tyson in the main event of a historic boxing card that streamed on Netflix. The fight was not a barnburner by any stretch of the imagination as Paul was able to outpoint the former heavyweight champion.
Paul was asked about the backlash during a special roundtable in Orlando with Amanda Serrano and Nakisa Bidarian.
“There’s no response to the reaction to the Tyson fight,” Paul said. “I, quite frankly, didn’t look at it. What do I care what people have to say about anything that I do? If anyone in my life has something to say, they’ll text me. And if you don’t have my number, then I don’t give a f*ck about you.
“All of the texts were, ‘Best event ever. Incredible. You’re the face of boxing,’ all of these things, ‘record breaking,’ love, love, love. That’s all I care about. ...
“People are just upset that it’s permanently on BoxRec that I beat Mike Tyson.”
Since the victory, Paul has been called out and criticized by a number of boxers — including Canelo Alvarez, Daniel Dubois, Gervonta Davis, and Claressa Shields
In the eyes of Paul and his team, it’s not just about who would win in a fight, it’s about trying to use his name for headlines, and the chance to earn a massive payday.
“That’s the landscape we’re in, just everyone’s trying to talk shit and peacock and jockey for their position,” Paul explained. “But beyond all the shit talk, I don’t want to just create a back and forth of nonsense, but I have the biggest fight in boxing history. Numbers tell the truth of that, so people can say whatever they want. Let me see you do more numbers and then we can talk.
“And it’s funny because all these people are always talking about us and we never talk about them until it’s in an interview and we’re asked about them so we never say a word about these people who are fighting in an ice rink in Detroit with five fans giving away tickets. ...
“There’s like a long line of people [that want to fight me]. They can take a ticket and get in line to see who I want to fight next seriously. I don’t say that as shit talk. I’m the biggest payday in the sport of boxing right now so everybody wants to fight. And when you’re the hot girl on the block, you can do what the f*ck you want.”
