Sunny Edwards says Galal Yafai is a proper competitive matchup.
Ahead of their upcoming fight on Nov. 30, Sunny Edwards and Galal Yafai sit down for a face-to-face conversation with Matchroom to discuss their impending battle, their long history with one another, and more. Both fighters are clear in the fact that they have plenty of respect for one another, so no real trash talk here, but they say that won’t detract from the action in the ring on fight night. Check out some excerpts below with full video in the link at the top.
“I feel like this fight is all the way up there. With Galal, it’s got the response, it’s got the interest that it deserves. There’s not many people in our country, our weights, that have done what we have, and for the last seven, eight years of my pro career it’s been a bit disappointing that there haven’t really been other British names. I have not really had the domestic nights, really.
“Me and Galal, we’ve always got on, the respect has always been high but I don’t think there was ever any doubt that this moment would come.”
“Definitely into the hundreds [of rounds of sparring]. A couple hundred, I’d say.”
“Sunny is a good fighter, I’ve shared loads of rounds with him. I’ve watched him for years, he’s watched me for years. People are going to think ‘it’s too soon for him’ but that’s where I prove them wrong in the fight.”
“I’m not someone who looks too far ahead, I’ve got to beat him first...I want to be world champion. He’s been world champion, I ain’t been world champion. Simple as that for me. “
