Earlier today the East Japan Boxing Association announced the monthly award winners for the month of August, naming 3 winners.
The MVP for the month was the newly crowned WBO Asia Pacific Super Featherweight champion Kai Watanabe (13-1-1, 7) [渡邊海], who put on a sensational performance to stop Toshihiro Suzuki (5-1, 4) [鈴木稔弘] inside a round, in brutal fashion. The performance came after a couple of poor ones for Watanabe, and saw him really step up to the test putting on one of the best performances at this level all year. He was vicious, accurate, and fought like a man making a statement.
The Fighting Spirit Award was also won by a newly crowned WBO Asia Pacific champion, this time Super Flyweight king Ryusei Kawaura (12-2, 8) [川浦龍生], who stopped Tetsuro Ohashi (12-4-1, 3) [大橋哲朗] in the 11th round of their bout to score the biggest win of his career, and finally win his first professional title.
The Newcomer Award was won by fast rising hopeful Reo Nishioka (4-0, 1) [西岡伶英] for his hard fought win over Kento Uchigamae (4-2, 1) [内構拳斗], a win that has secured his place in the JBC rankings, and solidify him as one to watch going forward.
