The Andy Murray era is over. Is it Jack Draper’s time to shine?
Admittedly, a second-round win over world No64 Facundo Diaz Acosta is no more than we would have expected from Draper, who is the 25th seed here.
But the manner of Draper’s 6-4, 6-2, 6-2 victory – which occupied an efficient two hours and five minutes – was refreshingly businesslike, especially after his fellow British No1 Katie Boulter had fluffed her lines in what, on paper, had looked like an eminently winnable match.
Dressed in Nike’s fuschia kit, Draper is flowering in the absence of Murray, having spoken before the tournament about the responsibility he feels to be the British standard-bearer.]]>
