One of the marquee matchups in Week 1 of the college football slate starting on Thursday will take place between the Minnesota Golden Gophers and North Carolina Tar Heels.
The Golden Gophers struggled last season, finishing just below .500 at 6-7 after a 3-6 campaign against fellow Big Ten rivals. However, transfer quarterback Max Brosmer was added under center to boost a struggling passing attack.
The Tar Heels amassed a respectable 8-5 overall record — with a mediocre 4-4 mark against the ACC — but finished the season on a three-game losing streak. That slide was punctuated by a loss to the West Virginia Mountaineers in the Duke’s Mayo Bowl.
