OKLAHOMA CITY (KFOR) - Everyone loves a good meal before any big game, whether that be at the tailgate with family and friends or inside the stadium. We went to both Stillwater and Norman for a look at pricing, some yearly favorite foods and what’s new ahead of this exciting college football season.
Starting in Stillwater, the Pokes are sure to have Boone Pickens Stadium rocking this fall, but of course, fans will need some fuel to cheer on America’s Brightest Orange.
"We try to make it as much like it is here as you know, out there. Brisket and pulled pork in the stadium is just so easy,” co-owner of Smokin Joes Stillwater Ethan Stedman said. "You can't mess it up."
Their sandwiches are served for around 15 bucks. Cheddar hot links could soon be on the menu as well.
But if BBQ isn’t your go to, just visit the famous Curty Shack.
"Every one of the hot dogs is named after a college student,” Curty Shack owner Sarah Eslinger said.
Right now, there’s 12 of them like the Firty Curdy, Dirty Coyote or Dirty Julia. Each one has different toppings with the only constant being cream cheese. Each hot dog is $7 and Eslinger said your name could be behind one of them to.
"You just have to bug me until I say yes,” she said.
Another famous spot for a hot dog inside BPS would be Coney Island and what better to wash it all down with than Iron Monks brew 1890.
"It became our number one selling beer,” CEO of Iron Monk Trenton Inselman said.
The $11.50 blonde ale is named for the year the university was founded. Multiple cans commemorate Oklahoma State’s homecoming, wrestling, baseball, tennis and more. They also plan to have a new 125th year of football at Oklahoma State can too.
"We've really expanded our lineup,” Inselman said.
To top it off, Senior Associate Athletic Director of Facilities Kyle Waters said if you want to skip the lines, they’re putting in new multi-item grab and go stations in BPS this year as well.
"Hopefully it'll speed up their process where they're not missing much of the game,” Waters said.
Down in Norman, fans will fill the seats this fall to watch a new beginning for Oklahoma football. As for the food in the stadium, it starts with what one vendor said is a fan favorite.
"When we polled everybody, the fan favorite was the diner double,” Stephen Degraffenreid with Boomarang Diner said.
It’s simple, but savory. Boomarang Diner serves burgers, corn dogs and tator tots at Gaylord Family Oklahoma Memorial Stadium. They’re local to Oklahoma with over 50 restaurants statewide. They’re also expecting a 10 to 15 percent bump in fan traffic with the SEC move as well.
"We try to serve burgers and smiles,” Degraffenreid said. “That's a big thing for us."
Another classic that’s sure to make fans smile is the famous Fletcher’s Corny Dog.
"To get to bring them to Oklahoma has been such a new adventure for us,” co-owner of Fletcher’s Corny Dogs Amber Fletcher said.
There’s 80 years of family tradition in the corny dogs that are incredibly famous at the Great State Fair of Texas. The fried treats are between just $6 and $9 depending on what you get.
"We also have brought our jalapeno and cheese, which is my personal favorite,” Fletcher said.
Also back this season is COOP Ale Works Schooner All American Ale.
The University of Oklahoma’s Executive Director of External Engagement Leah Beasley said it’s all sure to spark a fun environment for the future in the Southeastern Conference.
"We want full bellies and fun times,” Beasley said. "Each game, each season, we're going to take something and have a new spin on it."
Levy Restaurants are the main concessionaire at OU. Their menu and new items they will bring to the stadium can be found when it gets released this month.
