A LUCKY punter was celebrating winning an extra £25,000 on his 10p bet – after the bookies’ own rule came back to bite them.
Shaken William Hill traders admitted they wanted to ‘forget the whole thing’ after one bettor walked away with almost £50,000 in total from their each way Lucky 15.
Incredibly, three of the four winning selections drifted wildly before the off.

But it didn’t matter because, thanks to best odds guaranteed, the punter got the best price available.
That meant they got paid out at 28-1 rather than 22-1 when Uncle Dick flew home in the feature Brighton Mile on Wednesday.
The big-price winners only got bigger, though, when A Girl Named Ivy – who the punter backed at 20-1 – won at 33-1 at Pontefract.
The Michael Dods-trained three-year-old filly finished last on her previous appearance at Thirsk.
But she made up for that in style at Pontefract in a six-furlong handicap, scooting in by a short head from 22-1 Oso Rapido.
That double alone would have paid out at 985-1 but amazingly there was more to come.
Longuerue went for a walk in the market from 12s to 18-1 before winning at Yarmouth.
While the freak punt landed half an hour later when Raneenn, the only horse whose odds shortened before the off, won the next at Yarmouth.
The bettor stuck the filly in their bet at odds 28s but William Haggas’ debutant was sent off 25-1.
She travelled strongly under 3lb claimer Harry Burns and made all, seeing off Roger Varian’s 5-1 Khaldiya by a neck.
Had there been no best odds guaranteed then the punter would have won £22,304.41 from their 10p each way Lucky 15.
But they banked an extra £25,000 thanks to the concession, taking the total to an amazing £47,304.21.
Spokesperson for William Hill, Lee Phelps, said: “One of our punters enjoyed a sublime Wednesday evening when their 10p each way Lucky 15 hit the target and returned £22,304.21.
“Uncle Dick, 22-1, got the ball rolling at Brighton, followed by A Girl Named Ivy 20-1’s narrow win at Pontefract, before two winners at Yarmouth, Longuerue (12-1) and Raneenn (28-1), sealed the deal for the customer.
“And they weren’t finished there, as qualifying for our maximum Best Odds concession, they walked away with a further £25,000, with £47,304.21 the final juicy payout.
“It will certainly be a Wednesday they’ll remember for a long time, while it’s one we might want to forget quite quickly!”
