Even though Justin Fields is now with the Pittsburgh Steelers, it’s worth keeping an eye on him. If Fields plays in at least 51% of the snaps in 2024, the Bears will receive a 4th-round pick instead of a 6th in the 2025 NFL draft. Upon joining the Steelers, Fields was immediately listed as the backup to Russell Wilson. However, with Wilson sidelined due to a calf injury during training camp, Fields has excelled in practice. Steelers Head Coach Mike Tomlin had not officially acknowledged a competition for the quarterback position until early Wednesday morning during his press conference, where he effectively confirmed that it is indeed a real competition between Fields and Wilson.
In the end, I’ll be rooting for Justin Fields to succeed. If he does well, it will also benefit the Bears. This week will be particularly interesting as Fields will be starting against the Texans, since Russell Wilson is out of the first preseason game due to his calf injury. A big performance from Fields might just be the nail in the coffin for Wilson’s hope to remain the starter.
