UFC announces Jared Cannonier vs. Caio Borralho main event on short notice

Eighteen days out, the UFC Fight Night event scheduled for Aug. 24 finally has a main event as middleweight contenders Jared Cannonier and Caio Borralho will meet at the UFC Apex in Las Vegas, the promotion announced Tuesday.

Cannonier (17-7 MMA, 10-7 UFC) will look to get back on track, while Borralho (16-1 MMA, 6-0 UFC) aims to continue his ascent to the top of the middleweight division.

In June, Cannonier was finished (in controversial fashion) by Nassourdine Imavov. The defeat snapped a two-fight winning streak and was his first fight in 12 months due to injury.

Borralho enters his first UFC main event having knocked out Paul Craig in his most recent outing at UFC 301 in May. His other UFC wins include Abus Magomedov, Michal Oleksiejczuk, Makhmud Muradov, Armen Petrosyan, and Gadzhi Omargadzhiev.

With the addition, the UFC Fight Night lineup for Aug. 24 includes:

• Neil Magny vs. Michael Morales
• Angela Hill vs. Tabatha Ricci

• Jacqueline Cavalcanti vs. Josiane Nunes
• Victoria Leonardo vs. Cong Wang
