THE DECATHLON is one of the ultimate tests of skill and endurance for male athletes at the Olympics.
It’s a ten-discipline event which tests a wide range of track and field events for competitors.

The decathlon evolved from the pentathlon, a regular feature in the Ancient Olympics that included the long jump, discus, javelin, sprint and wrestling.
Versions of the event re-emerged in the 19th century with the pentathlon taking place at the 1904 Olympics.
The Decathlon made its debut at the 1912 Olympics.
The comparative version for female athletes is the heptathlon, which consists of seven track and field events.
And it promises to be a hotly contested medal race at Paris 2024.
The 10 events of the decathlon are: 100 metres, long jump, shot put, high jump, 400 metres, 110 metres hurdles, discus , pole vault, javelin and 1500 metres.
The first day of decathlon action begins on August 2nd.
The second day and medal ceremony will take place on August 3rd.
Gold was won by Canadian star Damian Warner at Tokyo 2020.
France‘s Kevin Mayer came second.
And Australian Ashley Moloney won bronze.
Kevin Mayer set the record for the most points for a decathlon in 2018 with 9126.
Damian Warner set the record in Tokyo with 9018 points.
