Jake Paul and Amanda Serrano went through different means to move forward with their respective stay-busy fights.
The show will go on as all fighters made weight for Saturday’s Pay-Per-View event from AMALIE Arena in Tampa, Florida. Paul needed a second attempt to get down to the 200-pound cruiserweight limit. Mike Perry (0-1)—an MMA and BKFC star—was below the mark at 196.6 pounds for his second pro fight.
Their bout headlines a PPV show that will be carried by DAZN and PPV.com (Saturday, 9:00 p.m. ET).
Paul (9-1, 6 knockouts) was initially 200.4 pounds during the official weigh-in earlier Friday. The influencer and aspiring cruiserweight contender came back right at 200 pounds a few minutes later.
The bout is the second of the year for Paul, who was originally due to face Mike Tyson. The bout was delayed by four months when Tyson, a Hall of Fame former heavyweight champion, was hospitalized.
A decision was made for Paul and several members of his stable to move forward with the planned fight date. Paul, Serrano (46-2-1, 30 KOs) and H2O Sylve (11-0, 9 KOs) all secured new opponents for the occasion.
Serrano was 136 pounds, while locally based Stevie Morgan (14-1, 13 KOs) was 136.6 pounds.
Both were well under the contracted limit for their scheduled 10-round junior welterweight contest.
Serrano is the ringing RING, WBA, IBF and WBO featherweight champ. The legendary seven-division titlist was due to face undisputed 140-pound champ Katie Taylor (23-1, 6 KOs) on the Tyson-Paul undercard. The rematch to their epic April 2022 encounter will still take place on the rescheduled Nov. 15 date in Arlington, Texas.
Taylor, who won via split decision, opted to sit out; Serrano chose to move forward.
The bout will be the fifth for the 35-year-old Brooklyn-bred Boricua southpaw since her narrow defeat to Taylor. She returned to featherweight to defeat Sarah Mahfoud (11-0 and IBF titlist at the time) and Erika Cruz (WBA) to fully unify the decision. Serrano then added points win over Heather Hardy and Danila Ramos in separate title defenses.
Her decision to face Morgan was to properly acclimate to the higher weight. She fought this heavy only once before—a Sept. 2018 win over Yamila Reynoso (11-4-3 at the time) to win the WBO 140-pound title. She weighed a career-heaviest 138 ½ pounds but actually entered the ring at 134 pounds.
Morgan has won six in a row since her lone career defeat. All have taken place in Colombia and versus limited opposition.
Below are the weights for the rest of the undercard.
