This is poker for you.
You could have the best starting hand like Adrian Mateos did at the 2024 World Series of Poker Main Event with Aces … and lose on a bad beat.
Mateos raised a bunch and Adrian Garcia stayed in with the Ace-King of spades. Normally, that’s a hand that would have easily eliminated Garcia while facing Aces. But when the players went all-in, the flop had a 10 of spades.
The turn? A 9 of spades. Uh-oh. Another spade would give Garcia the flush and save his tournament, while putting a huge dent in Mateos’s stack.
Guess what was on the river? The 3 of spades. Devastating!
All in against ACES!
The action continues on Day 5 of the @WSOP Main Event.
