Angel Reese extended her WNBA record streak of double-doubles to 14 in a win over the Atlanta Dream Wednesday afternoon, but it didn’t come without a little effort in the closing seconds of the game.
It was an effort Atlanta bettors would rather have not seen from Reese, who had nine points and 13 rebounds as the clock was winding down on a seven-point win for her Chicago Sky.
However, knowing Reese’s streak was in jeopardy of ending, her teammates fed her the ball in the post instead of allowing the game to end. And Atlanta’s Tina Charles was whistled for a foul, sending Reese to the line for two free throws that did more than simply extend her double-double streak.
With a +7 spread on the game at tip, Reese’s free throws also extended the lead to nine to ruin a push and bury Dream bettors.

But before people start blaming Reese for being a selfish stat chaser, they should aim their ire at the fans in Chicago. According to Chennedy Carter, via the Chicago Tribune’s Julia Poe, the fans were the ones urging Reese’s teammates to get her the ball.
All they did was give the fans what they wanted.
Chennedy on this play: "I told my team when I got in the locker room, I'm glad you told me because I was ready. to go coast to coast. … I didn't know what was going on." https://t.co/wcLxzTk04g

On the bright side, at least bettors lost their money to a little history.
