GARY LINEKER is expected to take centre stage during the Euro 2024 coverage as England bid for their first trophy since 1966.
Here, we look at his achievements and how much he is worth.
Gary Lineker was born on November 30, 1960, and played 80 times for England.
He scored 48 goals for his nation, 95 for Leicester, and 67 for Tottenham.
Since hanging up his boots in 1994, he has carved out a successful career in broadcasting as the host of popular football show Match Of The Day since 1999.
He has also worked as a football anchor for NBC, Al Jazeera, and TNT Sport.
It is thought that Lineker has a net worth of around £30million.
In 2020 he signed a £1.2m three-year deal to continue being the face of Walkers Crisps.
He has repeatedly topped the list of highest earners at the BBC.
Lineker earned £1.35million for his work at the BBC in 2023, topping the earnings list.
In 2019 he took home a whopping £1.75million.
His salary was reduced following a voluntary pay cut of 23% in 2020.
Lineker holds England’s record for goals in FIFA World Cup finals, with 10 scored.
He won the golden boot at the 1986 World Cup in Mexico.
Four years later he led the line for England as they reached the semi-final, the furthest England had got in a World Cup since 1966.
This was equalled by the 2018 squad who reached the semis in Russia before crashing out to Croatia.
During his career, he played for Leicester City, Everton, Barcelona and Tottenham. He later moved to Japan.
Lineker is widely seen as one of the great penalty box poachers and was known for his cool finishing and ability to be in the right place at the right time.
He was also famously never booked or sent off during his 16-year career.
After quitting football, Lineker’s media career began with the BBC, where he has presented the flagship programme Match of the Day since the late 1990s.
He has also worked for Al Jazeera Sports, Eredivisie Live and NBC Sports Network.
He hosted BT Sport’s coverage of the UEFA Champions League between 2015 and 2021.
