Tim Tszyu and Vergil Ortiz will likely meet in August.
Tim Tszyu and Vergil Ortiz Jr will likely meet in an Aug. 3 fight on the Crawford vs Madrimov undercard, Mike Coppinger of ESPN.com reports.
The fight is dependent upon Ortiz (20-0, 20 KO) winning his fight against Thomas Dulorme on Saturday, which is expected.
Tszyu (24-1, 17 KO) is coming off of a loss to Sebastian Fundora on Mar. 31, but while he lost his world title and his undefeated record, he gained fans and notoriety in the bloody battle, which he took on short notice when original opponent Keith Thurman pulled out late.
Yesterday, it was reported that the card would also feature Isaac “Pitbull” Cruz and Andy Ruiz Jr returning to action, plus a third fight between Leo Santa Cruz and Abner Mares.
Tszyu vs Ortiz would really be the gem of the card, though, a likely can’t-miss action matchup and potential major slugfest that would serve as a nice step up for the 26-year-old Ortiz, and a great — and risky — return bout for the 29-year-old Tszyu.
