CRISTIANO RONALDO has previously opened up on his past in a revealing interview.
The Portuguese superstar, has been at the very top of the beautiful game for the past decade – but revealed in an emotional interview with Piers Morgan that his father never saw him reach those lofty heights.
RONALDO has come a long way since arriving at Manchester United as a skinny teenager in 2003.
But he has revealed that he barely knew his father Jose Dinis Aveiro – and rarely even had a proper conversation before heading off to become one of the greatest players of all time.
Dinis was a soldier who had fought in Africa and was deeply affected by his experiences in Mozambique and Angola.
He struggled with an alcohol issue, which has resulted in his son becoming tee-total.
In the upcoming interview, Piers Morgan showed Ronaldo footage of his dad praising his son for Norwegian TV shortly before he died.
An emotional Ronaldo revealed: “I never saw that video. Unbelievable.
“I think the interview would be funny, but I didn’t expect to cry. But I never saw these images. I don’t know where you… I have to have these images to show my family.
“I really don’t know my father 100 per cent. He was a drunk person. I never spoke with him, like a normal conversation. It was hard.
“To be the number one and he don’t see nothing, and he don’t see to receive awards, to see what I became.”
She explained: “He was drunk almost every day. I never really knew him well. I would have liked him to have been around more.
“Although he never mistreated his children, I became his victim.”
DINIS struggled with alcoholism and died of liver failure.
He passed away in 2005, just two years after Ronaldo headed to England and Manchester United.
As a result, he missed his son winning five Champions League titles, five Ballon d’Or awards and leading his country to Euro 2016 glory.
Ronaldo was just 20 when his father died.
