Inter director Beppe Marotta insists there are no talks with Saudi fund and Newcastle United owners PIF for a takeover, as Steven Zhang and Suning ‘assured me he will remain.’
There have been reports for months that PIF are ready to stage a swoop for Inter shares, even before they had completed the takeover of Premier League club Newcastle United.
Suning remain in financial difficulty and Inter are still running at record losses for a Serie A club.
So ahead of tonight’s game with Juventus at San Siro, Marotta was asked about the on-going rumours of a Saudi bid for the Nerazzurri.
“I am not a shareholder, so it is not in my purview, but I can say that I spoke to the president and he assured me he will remain,” Marotta told DAZN.
“There is nothing concrete, although as I said this is something that our owners deal with and not my area of expertise.”
Inter already sold several big players to keep the club afloat over the summer, including Romelu Lukaku and Achraf Hakimi.
“Our objective was to ensure the club was safe and we had to sell some important players, but working creatively we were able to replace them well. It’s a team sport, so individuals don’t make you win trophies, it’s the team and the coach. We worked aiming to reinforce that concept.”
