Trevor Lawrence, welcome to Jacksonville.
The Jaguars secured the first pick in the 2021 NFL Draft with a 41-17 loss to the Bears Sunday. With the Jets beating a weakened Browns team on Sunday, the Jaguars were able to clinch the coveted No. 1 spot at the top of April’s draft.
That pick will undoubtedly be used on Lawrence, who is slated to close his college career in the College Football Playoff over the next couple weeks. Lawrence hasn’t officially declared for the draft yet, but he will.
In an appearance on The Dan Patrick Show, Lawrence said that he wasn’t afraid of what awaits for him in the NFL.
It’s good that he’s ready for this challenge because he has a big challenge awaiting him in Jacksonville. The Jaguars’ defense is a mess and they’ll be relying on Lawrence to jumpstart the offense immediately upon his arrival in Jacksonville.
Luckily, he’ll have at least two solid weapons to throw to in 2021 in D.J. Chark and Lavishka Shenault. The Jaguars haven’t hired a new general manager or head coach yet, but adding talent to the offensive core wouldn’t be a bad plan for the future front office.
The Jaguars are locked into the first pick and the Jets are locked into the second spot. With the Bengals winning their fourth game of the season, the next three picks will come down to the Falcons, Panthers, and Dolphins (who currently hold Houston’s first-round pick.)
Lawrence will be the first pick to the Jaguars, which means the draft really starts with the Jets and their second-overall pick. Ohio State quarterback Justin Fields is the favorite to be taken by the Jets right now, but BYU quarterback Zach Wilson has played his way into the mix as well.
