Conor McGregor’s retirement could be short lived as the UFC has “fun stuff” planned for him next year.
Conor McGregor’s retirement from MMA this year always seemed uncertain, so it’s not surprising to hear the former two-weight UFC champ could return in 2021.
McGregor, 32, revealed in June that he was retired from fighting after the UFC was unable to offer him an intriguing fight following his 40-second stoppage win over Donald Cerrone at UFC 246. “Notorious” has shown no inklings of returning to the UFC since announcing his retirement, but according to Dana White he could be back next year.
Talking to ESPN earlier this week, White said whilst McGregor’s return to cage isn’t guaranteed they are working on “some fun stuff” for the Irishman.
“We’re actually working on some fun stuff for Conor at the beginning of next year,” White said. “He should be back next year.
“I’m not saying he’s coming back to fight guaranteed, but we’re talking right now about some stuff.” (H/T MMA Fighting)
McGregor has recently been in the news this month after he was detained on the French island of Corsica for allegedly exhibiting his “private parts” to a young woman. He was later released and no charges were filed. The UFC superstar released a statement following his arrest saying he will never give in to those looking to make money off of his name.
