The veteran and former Olympian thinks he matches up well with his opponent on Saturday.
Terrell Gausha and Erickson Lubin are facing similar circumstances in their Saturday (SHO, 9 pm ET) main event, with a shot at the WBC 154-pound title on the line, which would be a second chance at a major belt for both men.
But for the 33-year-old Gausha (21-1-1, 10 KO), things are probably a bit more immediate than they are for the 24-year-old Lubin (22-1, 16 KO). Sure, Lubin wants to win just as badly, but the reality is that Gausha has less time to get back to that big stage, and logically, this is probably even more “must-win” for him than it is for the younger, more hyped fighter.
Gausha, though, is playing it cool ahead of the fight, noting his experience against southpaws and his confidence in the matchup.
“Lubin is the favorite in this fight, but I’m no stranger to being an underdog,” Gausha said. “There’s no pressure on me. I definitely want to let my hands go, but there’s no pressure. This will be my fourth southpaw in a row. So I’m more comfortable and familiar this time around.
“I’m expecting Erickson Lubin to come in ready. I’m expecting a good fight. We both know what’s on the line, and that a title shot awaits us. But I’m looking to make a statement and take control.
“It’s a great opportunity for both of us. I’m looking forward to fighting for the titles next. Whatever we have to do, we’re going to do. We can box or we can bang. We will do whatever we need to do.”
As for that matchup, Gausha says he thinks Lubin is a good one for him.
“I like the style matchup heading into the fight with Lubin. He likes to stay busy and press the action and I think that’s better for me and gives me a chance to catch him.”
