The San Jose State University football game at Penn State scheduled for Sept. 19, 2020, will not be played following the Big Ten Conference’s announcement on conference-only contests in selected sports this fall.
“We are in a precedent-setting time in college athletics,” San Jose State athletic director Marie Tuite said in a release by the school. “The actions by the Big Ten Conference will require a shift for us and we will adjust our plans for the 2020 football season and the 2020-21 academic year accordingly.”
“Today’s news is another result of how the COVID-19 pandemic is affecting our lives,” said Spartans coach Brent Brennan. “We’ll get together as a football program, athletics department and as a university, look at our options, and determine our next steps.”
The Spartans are tentatively scheduled to open their season Sept. 5 at Central Michigan.
