Kirkland will headline a PBC on FS1 card.
One of boxing’s best action fighters over the last decade will be making his way back to the airways as middleweight James Kirkland (34-2, 30 KOs) has been scheduled to face Mark Anthony Hernandez (14-3-1, 3 KOs) on March 14 at the MGM National Harbor in Oxon Hill, Maryland, per a report from RingTV.
The fight will headline a PBC Fight Night card that will air live on FS1 and Fox Deportes starting at 8pm ET.
“I’m very excited to make the most of this opportunity,” said Kirkland, who is promoted by Davies Entertainment. “It’s truly a blessing to be back in the mix. I’m training hard and perfecting my craft like always. Look for me to bring fireworks on March 14.”
Kirkland, 35, probably hasn’t been seen by most fans since his ill-fated 2015 fight against Canelo Alvarez, when he was knocked out in spectacular fashion in three rounds. The mercurial Kirkland then spent four full years off the scene before quietly returning in the second-half of last year to fight two lower-tier opponents, both of whom he knocked out.
This next fight for Kirkland should be a little better, but not by much as he takes on 26-year-old Hernandez who doesn’t have any power and is most recently coming off a decision loss to Kevin Newman.
If Kirkland is still the same guy we remember this should be a short night as the ferocious Texas native should pretty much steamroll this fella. But then again, Kirkland was once upon a time stopped by light-hitting Nobuhiro Ishida, so you never really know what to expect. But one thing we all know for certain is that whether win or lose, Kirkland is going to bring the electricity.
