Taylor says he’s outgrown the company and hopes they can part ways amicably.
Yesterday news broke that unified junior welterweight champion Josh Taylor had signed new promotional deal with Top Rank — apparently even to the surprise his longtime promotional outfit, Cyclone Promotions.
Cyclone, headed by Barry McGuigan, would promptly issue a statement saying that Taylor is still under exclusive contract with the company and that they were saddened by the news that Taylor decided to brake their promotional agreement, suggesting legal action could be on the horizon.
Well, Taylor decided to then issue a statement of his own, albeit most likely aided by some legal representatives.
I wanted to stay respectfully silent about my relationship with Cyclone but given they have released a statement it is only proper that I respond.

Whilst I acknowledge and appreciate the role that Cyclone has played in may career to date, three weeks ago I terminated my promotional agreement with Cyclone as a result of various breaches of contract including, in particular, breaches relating to a conflict of interest

on the part of the promoter. That allowed me to search for a new promoter, which I have found in top rank. I wanted to part ways amicably and without resorting to court proceedings,

I thought and hoped the Mcguigans would feel the same way given the litigation they are involved in with other fighters. I hope all of us can now move on in a positive way concentrating on things which advance us all.

Taylor would then speak to Edinburgh News about his ambition to advance his career Stateside, believing that signing with Top Rank will put him right in line for a fight he says he’s wanted for some time now — Terence Crawford.
“If I move up to 147lbs then that fight with Crawford should be easily made. The only negotiating that would need to happen would be if it is going to be here or in America. It’s been an ambition of mine to fight him for a long time.”
The Scottish fighter would continue by crediting the work Cyclone has done for him over the years, saying that they’ve put him in a great position, but that he’s simply outgrown the company and is looking towards bigger things.
