Former UFC middleweight champion Michael Bisping highlighted a list of 15 fighters to receive extended medical suspensions in the aftermath of UFC Shanghai.
The UFC, which self-regulated the overseas event, released the show’s finalized medical suspension report Tuesday to ABC record keeper mixedmartialarts.com.
Just three weeks after his submission setback to Georges St-Pierre, Bisping suffered a nasty first-round knockout loss at the hands of Kelvin Gastelum in UFC Shaghai’s main event. As a result of damage sustained in the contest, Bisping will be forced to sit out 60 days before returning to active competition, per UFC officials.
Notably, that suspension window ends early enough to allow to Bisping hold his retirement fight on March 17 at UFC London, if he so desires.
Aside from Bisping, four other fighters received potential medial suspensions lasting longer than two months. Those fighters are: Zak Ottow (180 days, right hand), Song Yadong (180 days, right foot), Shamil Abdurakhimov (180 days, left thumb), and Gina Mazany (180 days, left toe).
UFC Shanghai took place Nov. 25, 2017 at Mercedes Benz Arena in Shanghai, China. The card aired live on UFC Fight Pass.
