The talking is over. The fight is here.
Tonight at 9:00 pm ET on Showtime pay-per-view, the hype finally ends and the fight takes place. Floyd Mayweather returns to the boxing ring after just shy of a two-year absence to face UFC superstar Conor McGregor, who will be in a pro boxing ring for the first time, period.
Mayweather (49-0, 26 KO) is the heavy favorite, particularly in boxing circles, but McGregor and the long odds against him have convinced a lot of people to put down money on the wild Irishman, who claims he’ll knock Mayweather out within the first two rounds.
If the main event doesn’t quite tickle your fancy, there are three more fights on the card, all of them featuring a pair of professional boxers. Gervonta Davis (18-0, 17 KO) takes on Francisco Fonseca (19-0-1, 13 KO) in a fight where, should Fonseca pull the sizable upset, he can win the IBF super featherweight title, which Davis was forced to vacate after missing weight.
Nathan Cleverly (30-3, 16 KO) takes on Badou Jack (21-1-2, 12 KO) for the WBA light heavyweight title, as well, plus we’ll open with a cruiserweight battle between prospect Andrew Tabiti (14-0, 12 KO) and savvy veteran Steve Cunningham (29-8-1, 13 KO).
One way or the other, we find out for sure tonight.
