It has been a few years since Rip Curl South Africa attended the Rip Curl GromSearch International Finals, but 2024 was an excellent year to get back in the game. A historic Finals Day in the 2024 Surf City El Salvador ISA World Masters Surfing Championship (WMSC) saw Brazil crowned as Masters Team World Champion for the first time. Another day of incredible surf saw four-to-five foot walls lining the long, right-hand point of El Sunzal. The conditions were ideal to crown World Champions from amongst the world’s best surfers over 40. After excellent results at the final event on the Rip Curl GromSearch series 2024, the Rip Curl GromSearch Seal Point presented by Sea Harvest, Rory Dace (Cape St Francis) and Louise Lepront (Scottburgh) emerged victorious in the series rankings. The 28th edition of the Sea Harvest SA Junior Surfing Championships, presented by SMTH Shapes and supported by the Department of Sport, Arts and Culture and Ocean Freedom, was completed at Lower Point in Jeffreys Bay in good surf conditions on Sunday, September 29th. Steven Sawyer (RSA) won the Abu Dhabi Longboard Classic Presented by Modon, Stop No. 3 of the 2024 World Surf League (WSL) Longboard Tour over the last weekend in September. In a historic day of competition, the WSL crowned its first event winners in its first event in the UAE. Small but contestable waves were the order of the day for the second day of the Rip Curl GromSearch Seal Point presented by Sea Harvest and The Kouga Municipality. This contest, the fifth and final event in the five-part series, will decide the series winners and award the two U16 division winners special prizes. The day started with thunder, lightning, and a downpour, but once that was all over, it turned out to be an amazing day of surfing at the Rip Curl GromSearch presented by Sea Harvest. Light onshore winds, some sunshine, and highly contestable waves reeled down the point for the competitors.
