WATCH: Democrats in Congress aim to shut down the government again!
Democrats are lining up to demand another shutdown of the U.S. government.
This time it’s over funding for the Department of Homeland Security, which includes the border security agenda of Immigration and Customs Enforcement, which President Donald Trump has been using nationwide to track down on illegal alien criminals and remove them from U.S. borders.
The fall’s shutdown, lasting weeks, was an unsuccessfully campaign by Sen. Chuck Schumer and other Democrat leaders to force Congress to raid taxpayer pockets for more than a trillion dollars for their pet projects.
The new shutdown effort includes, among many others, Schumer.
The Washington Examiner confirmed the New York Democrat has promised to oppose funding the DHS under the spending legislation that has been approved by the House and now is pending before the Senate.
“Schumer voiced his opposition to the DHS funding bill after 37-year-old Alex Pretti was shot and killed by a Border Patrol agent during an immigration operation on Saturday in Minneapolis. The fatal shooting is the second officer-involved incident in the city this month after an Immigration and Customs Enforcement officer shot and killed Renee Good on Jan. 7,” the report explained.
Schumer claimed the footage of the confrontations between ICE officers and agitators in Minneapolis is “horrific.”
“The appalling murders of Renee Good and Alex Pretti on the streets of Minneapolis must lead Republicans to join Democrats in overhauling ICE and CBP to protect the public,” he demanded.
“Senate Republicans must work with Democrats to advance the other five funding bills while we work to rewrite the DHS bill. This is [the] best course of action, and the American people are on our side,” he alleged.
Sens. Catherine Cortez Masto, D-Nev., and Jack Reed, D-Rhode Island, already had suggested dropping the bill
There are five other spending bills also awaiting Senate action.
The deadline to fund the government is Jan. 30, and the Senate is out of session on Monday due to the winter storm affecting the Northeast.
A shutdown could loom should agreement still be unavailable by the end of the week.
Among others demanding their way – or the highway – was Colorado Sen. Michael Bennet:
From Colorado to Minnesota, ICE is detaining children, separating families, and patrolling American cities.
I refuse to bankroll Kristi Noem’s cruel agenda. That’s why I’m voting NO on the DHS funding bill.
This legislation hands ICE a blank check without sufficient safeguards… pic.twitter.com/DRtj9erpFs

And others:
Voting NO on the DHS funding bill is the bare minimum.
Backing Kristi Noem’s impeachment is the bare minimum.
Holding law-breaking ICE agents legally accountable is the bare minimum.
ICE is beyond reform. Abolish it.

I joined some friends in Elgin today because yesterday’s killing by Trump’s DHS was a murder. No agency should be allowed to take a civilian’s life and escape accountability. I will continue to oppose DHS funding until there is real oversight, transparency, and justice. pic.twitter.com/CYy8q0nyWV

Alex Pretti should still be alive today.
Impeach Kristi Noem, NOW.

We are united in outrage. This needs to be a point where we say ENOUGH and refuse to vote on this DHS funding bill as it currently stands. pic.twitter.com/gSYDjZwFv1

Heartbreak doesn’t convey the devastation of what happened to Alex Jeffrey Pretti today. His own government killed him in cold blood.

The GOP appeared ready to move forward on the current package, which was approved in the House.
JUST IN: Senate Republicans are pressing ahead with the DHS and ICE funding bill despite Schumer’s shutdown threat.

And forecasts for a shutdown were surging:
78% Chance: The US Government Is Shutting Down
Donald Trump warned that without border funding, the government stops. The market ignored the risk until today.
