Another big deal movie has sold at the 2024 Venice Film Festival. Luca Guadagnino’s Queer has found a home at A24, a likely place for it to be. Re-teaming with Challengers writer Justin Kuritzkes, Queer is an adaptation of the book by William S. Burroughs. It stars Daniel Craig, Drew Starkey, Lesley Manville, Jason Schwartzman, Andra Ursuta, Michael Borremans, and David Lowery. The film sold for an undisclosed price just ahead of its world premiere in Venice. According to IndieWire, the plan is to show the film at TIFF and NYFF, then a theatrical run right in the awards contender pocket.
Set in 1950’s Mexico City, Craig stars as Burroughs self-insert character William Lee. Lee has been living a solitary life in Mexico, until a new bombshell enters the city and upends his world. Between this and Challengers, it’s a real homoerotic year for Luca “people, kiss!” Guadagnino.
