Against all odds, we’re here to tell you that Phil Collins is doing just fine. Time to exhale! We really needed this. As the first concrete update regarding his health in over two years, record producer Simon Napier-Bell visited Collins at his home near Lake Geneva to interview him for a documentary about London’s famed Marquee Club. “He was in top form, full of wicked stories, hugely fun. And he’s just had his studio revamped,” Napier-Bell wrote on social media. “For sure, before too long we’re going to hear some new music.” (Genesis powerhouse Tony Banks is also participating in the documentary.) The duo posed for a photo together, with Collins wearing a red polo shirt, smiling, and holding onto a cane, which he’s used to assist his mobility for several years. Since the final Genesis show in March 2022, Collins has entirely retreaded from the public eye; he was unable to drum on the tour due to dislocated vertebrae, nerve damage, and foot fractures. Worsening health was feared, in particular, after his former Genesis bandmate Steve Hackett got visibly upset in an interview earlier this year and said Collins “doesn’t deserve what happened to him.” We’re happy th—wait, NEW MUSIC? BRING IN THE DRUM MACHINE!
