2023 Canadian Regional Indoor Championships March 5th
On Sunday, March 5th, we will be hosting the Vancouver Island portion of the 2023 Canadian Regional Indoor Championships at Saanich Commonwealth. This event will be held during normal Sunday shooting times (1 – 4 PM), so there will be no club shoot that day.
If you’d like to compete, you can register by contacting the President.
Fees will be $20 for club members; $25 for non-members; $15 for junior (U21) club members; and $20 for junior non-members.
Some things to note:
- We’ll need some help setting up, if you can be there for noon, it would be much appreciated.
- Do not enter the gym at the normal door, go to the Cedar room (located just behind the gym) to complete registration and equipment inspection. The room will open at 1:00PM and we have that room for the entire event, so equipment can be left there.
- Practice will begin at approximately 1:15 PM and will be timed. There will be a minimum of 20 minutes practice, shooting will begin immediately after practice.
- All classes, except U13 shoot the 40cm target (full 40 for recurve, vertical 3 spot for compound). U13 will shoot 60cm targets.
- We will have the timing clocks out at least a week before the event, so everyone can practice with the timers.
- Dress Regulations will be strictly enforced, they can be found AC20.0.
Complete rules for the event can be found in the Canadian Archery Rule book Appendix AC 3.4 of Book 2 and Book 3 Target Archery. If you have any questions, please direct them to Al or Helena before the event.
2023 Canadian Championships August 7-12
As you have read here in the past, we are the hosts of the Canadian Championships this August 7 – 12 at the Juan de Fuca Recreation Centre. While we would like for as many of our members as possible to shoot, we need a commitment of many of you to lend a hand for the event.
Please let us know if you can assist in any or all of the following requirements:
- We need someone to chair the production of the official program
- We need someone to chair the advertising and promotion of the event – members are encouraged to solicit advertisers and sponsors that they may know
- We need someone to chair the Opening and Medal Ceremonies on the 8th and 12th
- We will need 6 – 10 volunteers as a field crew to assist at the actual event (9AM – 4PM)
- We’ll need volunteers to sell event merchandise and concession during the event (dates/times as above)
- Traffic control – monitoring the traffic behind our shooting field in shifts rotating with the field crew throughout the day
- Workers will be needed to work on equipment at work parties that will be announced later in the spring/summer
We must stress that there is nothing more important to the Victoria Bowmen this year than this event. We have committed to it and its success is very important to the future of the club. Hosting such an important national event shows the community how integrated into it we are – this is part of the path to a new outdoor facility. Please if you can help in any way or just want to discuss where you might fit in, call Al, Helena, Greg or Andrew (your trusty club executive). We’d be happy to talk to you about where you might fit in! Thank you for your help!
