Donald Trump’s lust to rename Dulles International Airport after himself while shocking in its crass narcissism is unsurprising considering the source. What is surprising, or would have been surprising before the rise of Trumpism, is that no Republican Congress member has objected on the grounds that Dulles airport is already named in honor of a great Republican and American patriot. John Foster Dulles served as President Dwight Eisenhower’s secretary of state from 1953 until his death in 1959. A staunch anti-Communist, he designed an aggressive foreign policy working in conjunction with our allies (NATO and SATO) to resist the Soviet threat to Western democracy.
