ASSASSIN’S Creed Shadows is facing another delay despite the game being feature-complete.
The next game in the Assassin’s Creed series was originally supposed to be released on November 12, 2024, but was delayed until February 14, 2025.
In a statement about Assassin’s Creed Shadows’ first delay Ubisoft said: “We realise we need more time to polish and refine the experience, pushing further some of our key features.
The statement claimed that the game was already feature-complete, but that the team was working on launching it on Steam simultaneously.
Ubisoft has now issued another statement announcing that the game will be delayed again, until March 20, 2025.
This time Ubisoft claims it is trying to create a “quality day-one experience” and told investors that it is hoping this would generate as much profit as possible at launch.
The latest statement from Ubisoft reads: “This additional time will allow the team to better incorporate the player feedback gathered over the past three months.
“And [we want to] help create the best conditions for launch by continuing to engage closely with the increasingly positive Assassin’s Creed community.”
Ubisoft has suffered large financial losses over the past few years including failed investments in NFT and AI-based games like Champion Tactics.
In May 2024, Ubisoft launched its new hero shooter, but announced its closure of XDefiant in December 2024 after it failed to meet the company’s expectations.
Alongside the announcement to players, CEO Yves Guillemot made a statement to Ubisoft’s investors.
In the statement, Guillemot writes that he has appointed a panel of advisors to find “transformational strategic and capitalistic options to extract the best value for stakeholders.”
He also says that he hasn’t ruled out selling Ubisoft or parts of it to a third-party company.
Rumours from past year suggest that Ubisoft believed gaming giant Tencent may make a bid for the company, but we haven’t heard further news of a purchase.
Guillemot told investors that he would inform the public in accordance with regulations “if and once a transaction materialises.”
It is not unusual for companies to delay games that have already been completed in order to find a less competitive launch window.
October 2024 was a huge month for gaming releases including Call of Duty: Black Ops 6, Metaphor: Refantazio, Silent Hill 2, and Dragon Age: The Veilguard.
February 2025 is looking equally stacked with games like Monster Hunter Wilds, Civilization 7, Like A Dragon Gaiden: A Pirate Yakuza in Hawaii, Avowed, and Kingdom Come Deliverance 2.
March is looking a little quieter and is a more favourable time for games to launch.
