The group of hopefuls arrived at the remote castle in the Scottish Highlands as ‘Faithful’ contestants hoping to share a prize fund.
Among them are the ‘Traitors’ – a group of contestants who were selected by Claudia on the first day, whose goal is to eliminate the Faithfuls and claim the prize for themselves.
On nearly every night, The Traitors come together and decide upon one Faithful contestant to ‘murder’ – and that person leaves the game immediately.
At the end of each day, the players participate in a Round Table, where the players discuss who to vote out because they think they are a Traitor.
The person who receives the most votes for banishment is banished from the game and must reveal their affiliation.
After the final round table, the remaining players vote whether to end the game.
Should the Faithful contestants have eliminated all the Traitors, they will share the prize fund, but if any Traitors make it to the end, they win the money instead.
It’s edge of your seat television and fans can’t get enough of the new season.
But a new bit of information about the show has been revealed.
A contestant from a previous season has explained that there is one piece of technology that the cast are allowed to have during their time in the Highlands.
Theo Mayne spoke to Screen Time recently and shared: “They take your phone away from you immediately.”
Perhaps if they had a smart phone they could jump on social media and find out more about their fellow contestants?
So, instead the cast are handed an old school type phone that only has snake and basic texting and calling on it.
He said: “You are given a handy little Nokia, so you can contact production if you need anything – I remember playing Snake on it.
The Traitors first launched in the UK in 2022, after the Dutch format was acquired by the BBC.
Claudia Winkleman is the show’s host, and has now hosted all three series to date.
How does it work?
It is a reality game show that involves 22 contestants, and some of them are chosen to be The Traitors.
The Traitors sees a group of contestants taking part in “the ultimate game of truth and deception”.
The group of contestants are competing for the chance to walk away with a huge cash prize.
While navigating through a series of challenges, the team are also tasked with figuring out who the Traitors are in the group (usually three contestants).
Each night, the Traitors gather to “eliminate” one of the Faithful, removing them from the competition
Meanwhile, the traitors can be “banished” if they’re successfully outed as a traitor by a faithful.
The winners of the show are either the Traitor who remains undetected or the Faithfuls if they successfully eliminate all the Traitors.
The prize sees the winner could get £120K.
“But as soon as you go to the castle, they take it away from you. We were completely immersed; there was no outside world.
“It was just Claudia Winkleman, Scottish Highlands and a castle. That’s all, that’s everything.”
The 26-year-old was banished in episode nine last year when the series became a huge hit on BBC One.
He became a fan favourite but was eliminated from the show when Amanda Lovett voted him out.
He also recently revealed what Claudia Winkleman’s really like behind the scenes.
Speaking to The Sun in an exclusive interview before series two returned, Theo says that despite host Claudia’s “evil” on-screen persona, she breaks character to comfort contestants.
“When you see Claudia, you do get a little bit starstruck,” admits Theo.
“She’s an iconic woman like she’s absolutely incredible, and she was so invested in the game as well as the players, so it was good to have her there.
“She gave me a hug on my banishment day. I was like ‘oh my god, Claudia Winkleman’s just hugged me’.
“She’s a phenomenal, phenomenal woman. I couldn’t say a bad word about her.”
“She would be whisked away and come out of nowhere.
“So there was a bit of a segregation that we can understand that we were all playing for £120,000 so she didn’t want to get in our way.
“I’d like to say she was Team Faithful but she must have been Team Traitors – but who knows!”
