A POPULAR historical drama lead by one of the stars from Bridgerton is set to return to the BBC.
Two years after the series made its debut, the follow-up is set to make a comeback on BBC Two.
The second series of Marie Antoinette is set to air on the BBC later this year[/caption] The series stars Louis Cunningham and Emilia Schüle[/caption]The BBC has acquired the second instalment of the period series, Marie Antoinette.
It will follow the extraordinary story of the late Queen Of France, who was known for her modern and avant-garde lifestyle.
Treadstone star Emilia Schüle will return to the title role alongside Bridgerton‘s Louis Cunningham.
Louis, 26, is well known amongst fans of the hit Netflix series for playing Lord Corning in the second episode of the sophomore series.
His character shared an intimate dance with Edwina Sharma (Charithra Chandran), whilst she was being courted by Anthony Bridgerton (Jonathan Bailey).
In the end, Anthony fell in love and married her sister Kate (Simone Ashley), much to the pleasure of fans.
Louis is set to reprise his role as the King of France, Louis XVI, who is at the height of his power.
Together, the couple face an unprecedented financial crisis in the country.
This is combined with continuous attacks in the Provence and Chartres regions against the royal family,
These attacks stir up an intense dislike of the infamous duo while tensions simmer in the background.
It’s due to the Affair of the Diamond Necklace incident which will have looming consequences from Versailles to the Palais-Royal.
Sue Deeks is Head of Programme Acquisitions at the BBC and she couldn’t help but gush about the forthcoming return.
She explained: “Following the great success of series one, we are delighted to return to Versailles for the next entertaining chapter in the eventful life of the charismatic and captivating Marie Antoinette.”
Marie Antoinette is created by Deborah Davis, who was known for her work on Yorgos Lanthimos’ hit film, The Favourite.
She wrote the Oscar winning film alongside Tony McNamara which starred the likes of Olivia Colman, Rachel Weisz and Emma Stone.
The series is made up of eight episodes that are 60 minutes in length that will air later this year on BBC Two and iPlayer.
