AN INCREDIBLY rare vintage convertible Porsche driven by a former F1 legend could be yours as it is set to go under the hammer.
This beautiful 1966 Porsche 910 is only one of 12 short-tail Porsche 910s produced and one of six Porsche 910s registered for road use.
The pristine white motor is truly a thing of beauty after it underwent a complete restoration that has returned it to its former glory days.
Incredible images show the 1966 Porsche with the chassis number 910-001, indicating it was first off the production line.
The car is in perfect condition and comes with the original racing seats.
Complete with the sleek Porsche logo along the side of the car and real racing stickers on the front and side, the first edition 910 is sure to fetch a high price at auction.
The iconic Porsche was driven by three-time F1 World Champion Niki Lauda at the 1969 Österreichring in a 1000-kilometer race and by Porsche works driver Hans Hermann at a 1968 Italian Hill Climb.
At the time, Lauda was just a junior driver and was looking to get his big break in the world of motor racing.
He began his F1 career two years after driving the Porsche.
F1 stalwart Helmut Marko has even taken the car for a spin back in his glory days meaning the lucky buyer is getting their hands on a piece of racing royalty.
The 900-001 features stylish F1-style 13-inch wheels and comes with an impressive 22bhp inline-six engine that can produce 170mph.
It comes in a white fibreglass bodywork with a red strip covering the front right headlights.
It even still has the names of its original driving pairing on board Rolf Stommelen and Hans Hermann.
Inside, the car has a red and black racing seat and a classy, old-fashioned steering wheel, gearstick and belt.
The Porsche entered its first-ever race on August 28, 1966, when veteran German legend Hans Herrmann drove it to third place in Switzerland.
The car has also done a tour of some of the greatest racing venues on the planet in its heyday such as Monza and Hockenheim.
It was made as an endurance beast to rival the top Ford’s and Ferrari’s at the time.
It was known as a powerful model capable of taking on the toughest challenges and longest races on the planet such as the Nürburgring 1000.
The car is due to be sold at auction on January 18 when it goes under the hammer at Mecum’s Kissimmee event.
While there is no guide price listed for the vehicle at this time, the car was previously listed for an auction for a whopping £1.7million.
The current listing of the car reads: “From inception in 1948, Porsche continues to signify excellence in all aspects of the design and engineering of its automobiles.
“Racing success was immediate with early victories scored in circuit races, hill climbs and rallies across Europe, including an electrifying class win at the 1951 edition of the 24 Hours of Le Mans.
“Combining the best and latest thinking in hill climb, Formula 1 Grand Prix and sports racing car design, the 910 can be considered the ultimate expression of the 906 with its much-stiffer tube frame and aggressively lowered weight.
“While the 910’s racing career with the factory was quite short, it was a big contributor to the many successes of 1967— the best in Porsche history to that time.”
