It was handed a double commission last year much to fans delight, with many more stories left to tell.
But now that season five has aired, Nicholas Ralph – who plays veterinary surgeon James Herriot – spoke about the show’s continued future.
He told The Sun: “As far as All Creatures goes, we love making it and can’t wait to go back out next year, and we’ll see what the future holds.
“I don’t know what the future holds for All Creatures, but yeah, as far as we’re concerned as long as people keep watching and enjoying it, I’m sure we’ll endeavour to keep making it.”
The Sun can reveal production on series six will officially kick off in February this year.
During the emotional Christmas Special, fans of the show were reduced to tears.
Housekeeper Mrs Hall (Anna Madeley) found herself in a very tense and sad situation after learning that the HMS Repulse had been sunk by Japanese fire off the coast of Malaysia.
Mrs Hall’s son, Edward, was among the crew serving on the Repulse.
But with approximately half of the personnel lost, his fate was left unknown.
At the time of All Creatures Great and Small’s recommission last year, Paul Testar, commissioning editor of Drama at Channel 5 and Paramount+ said: “We’re so pleased that All Creatures Great and Small will be returning to Channel 5 for two more series.
“The show has captured the hearts of our audiences and we are committed to bringing even more of James Herriot’s unforgettable stories to our viewers. We can’t wait to share this next chapter.”
All Creatures Great and Small follows the life and work of veterinary surgeons, James Herriot and Sigfried Farnon, set to the stunning back drop of the Dales.
The show is filmed in the Yorkshire Dales, which is where All Creatures Great and Small is also set.
Some of the show was also shot in Arncliffe, the village used for some aspects of Skeldale House, and Yockenthwaite Farm.
A local pub called The Devonshire was used as the exterior for the fictional inn, The Drovers Arms.
