CAMERON BANCROFT and Daniel Sams were rushed to hospital after a horrific head-on collision during a Big Bash League match.
The pair are thankfully both conscious and talking but have shown “concussion symptoms”, according to their team Sydney Thunder.
During the Thunder’s game away to Perth Scorchers on Friday, Bancroft and Sams, both 32, clashed heads as they tried to catch a ball while fielding.
Former Australian T20 international Sams came off as the worse of the two and was carried off the field on a stretcher.
Bancroft, also Australian, was able to walk off the field but was seen with blood streaming down his face as it poured from his nose.
The match at Optus Stadium in Perth had been paused for 12 minutes before the players were substituted for Ollie Davies and Hugh Weibgen.
Thunder later announced on social media that both players had also suffered possible fractures.
A statement from the team said: “Both players are conscious and talking, demonstrating symptoms of concussion and have possible fractures.
“Both have been transported to hospital for assessment.”
Watching a replay of the incident, an astro cricket TV commentator said the incident was “hard to watch”.
Meanwhile, Fox commentator Mel Jones called it a “horrendous collision”.
Perth finished their innings with a score of 177-4 from their 20 overs.
Team-mate Sherfane Rutherford, who hit a boundary off the last ball to secure a four-wicket victory for the Thunder, said he was “praying that they can come out soon and be back on the park”.
The 26-year-old added: “I actually saw everything but when I saw the blood, I turned because I’m not a fan of blood. It was pretty tough.
“It was definitely motivation for us. We had a little chat before we went out to bat and it was just [do it] for them.”
