DISNEY fans might not be aware of the scandal surrounding one of its iconic films.
The 1977 film The Rescuers is still an iconic Disney classic, and still available on Disney+ today.
The film follows the Rescue Aid Society, an international mouse organisation, dedicated to helping abduction victims around the world at large.
In the film, Bernard and Miss Bianca set out to rescue an orphan called Penny who is being held prisoner, prompting an epic adventure for all involved.
Yet at one point in the adventure, an X-rated image is in the background which led to Disney needing to recall the film.
In a ‘blink and you’ll miss it’ moment, the home video version of the film featured a topless nude woman that can be seen in a window.
The woman is facing the camera, so her exposed breasts can be seen by all, but how the image came to make the edit remains a mystery.
In 1999 Disney were forced to recall and make changes as it contained the “objectionable background image”.
At the time, a spokeswoman called Claudia Peters for Disney stated that this was “to keep our promise to families that we can trust and rely on the Disney brand to provide the finest in family entertainment”.
Back in 1999, those that bought the video following its release were told to return it to Disney’s video distribution wing at Buena Vista Home Entertainment in Carson, California, USA.
The news that an X-rated image had made it into a children’s film has been widely discussed with one Disney fan writing on Reddit: “This was a favorite film of mine growing up. Never knew about this until a few years ago.”
Another added: “Whaaaaaaaat?! I never noticed this!!!!”
A third shared: “Oh God… thanks for reminding me of this creepy movie. I’m gonna watch it with my kids and traumatize them as well. As per tradition. Lol jk”.
