SHE loves bold outfits and striking colours – but according to experts, Meghan Markle opts for eye-catching outfits to seek ”attention”.
The Duchess of Sussex, 43, took a leaf from the Princess of Wales‘ book over the weekend and arrived at the LA Children’s Hospital gala, sporting a red gown she had upcycled from a previous event.
The mum-of-two previously donned the lavish red Carolina Herrera gown at a gala for veterans with Prince Harry in New York in 2021.
At the bash on Saturday Meghan was seen greeting young fans and rubbing shoulders with the likes of Demi Lovato and The Big Bang Theory‘s Kaley Cuoco.
To give the gorgeous red dress a new look, Meghan had taken inspiration from her sister-in-law Kate, 42, and upcycled the £4,565 garment by removing excess material from the train.
The Duchess ditched the old pointy heels with a gorgeous pair of £696 slingback heels by Giuseppe Zanotti, which also featured a crystal-embellished buckle detail.
Colour consultant Jules Standish says there is a powerful meaning behind Meg’s choice of striking hues.
She said: “Meghan went bright and bold in red – a colour that demands attention, showing that she feels confident and strong.”
Reflecting on Meghan’s wardrobe at previous star-studded events, the expert went on: ‘When she chose turquoise, a colour which is fun-loving and uplifting, she was showing that she’s cool and in control.
”And in white at the National Theatre, she was projecting an open-minded personality.
”White is ultimately positive and optimistic and counteracts negativity – a tool Meghan frequently needs.”
Psychologist Karen Haller agreed, explaining that the bold pick of red ”is the colour we notice before any other”.
“There is a rebellious side to red. Meghan is maybe showing her independence here.”
The repurposing of outfits is typically associated with Kate who throughout the years has upheld a thrifty reputation thanks to her love of rewearing frocks and stylish accessories.
The mum-of-three, who recently made her first public appearance since revealing she’s finished chemo, previously spoke about her views on the environment when presenting an award at the Earthshot Prize Awards Ceremony in 2021.
The Royal reminded: “Nature is vital to us all… But for too long we’ve neglected our wild spaces and now we’re facing a number of tipping points.
“If we don’t act now we will permanently destabilise our planet and rob our children of the future they deserve.”
