THE American superstar wowed the audience with a rendition of one of her most beloved hits.
Mariah Carey stunned onlookers at the American Music Awards (AMAs) last night when she attended the glitzy ceremony to mark its 50th anniversary.
The two-hour program was broadcast on CBS, with the likes of Nelly, Chingy, J-Kwon and St Lunatics crooning I’m Every Woman from Chaka Khan.
Last night’s show also aired highlights from the ceremony over the years and had smash-hit performances from the likes of Nile Rodgers, Gladys Knight, and Green Day.
But it was Mariah Carey’s glittering performance when she emerged through a pink M that really left the audience gobsmacked.
Emerging on the stage adorned with pink and glitter to kick off her anniversary performance and celebration of her 2005 album The Emancipation Of Mimi, Mariah wowed in a satin frock.
The mother-of-two looked sensational and sounded ‘angelic’ when she crooned her beloved hit We Belong Together.
She even said “love you” to the audience to close out her performance.
Reacting to the performance in real-time, fans took to X, formerly known as Twitter, to swoon over the singer’s ageless appearance and vocal talent.
“Mariah is looking and sounding amazing,” penned one as she took to the stage.
Another person added, “Wow I’m moved Mariah really ate her amas performance. Her stage presence was on fire!!”
Meanwhile, after the performance, Mariah took to her Instagram page to share snaps of her on the stage, plus a behind-the-scenes video.
“GORGEOUS,” swooned Kris Jenner who commented on the slew of snaps.
“The only one who had the audiences singing along,” gushed a second person.
“A legend, icon, and forever the moment,” penned a third.
A fourth person then swooned, “So beautiful and angelic.”
“Unparalleled!!! That’s all… UNPARALLELED,” excitedly penned a fifth.
A sixth person then said that they thought Mariah “looked fantastic” and “sounded even better”, adding how her social media team did a great job at making sure she was seen “everywhere”.
“This performance is everything!!! And you look stunning as always MC,” said a seventh.
While another touchingly added, “You will always be deserving of all the tributes in this world! I love you!”
In the video clip that Mariah shared with the snaps on Instagram, the hitmaker could be seen sitting on a golf buggy on her way to the performance.
Sitting on the vehicle in her satin frock, Mariah looked sensational as she said “hello” to the person filming.
The video then cuts to the singer getting her hair and makeup perfected, before it cuts again to her on-stage singing.
Mariah’s performance at the AMAs came just weeks after she suffered two devastating losses.
On August 26, 2024, Mariah revealed to People Magazine that her mum Patricia and sister Alison died on the same day.
“My heart is broken that I’ve lost my mother this past weekend,” she told the outlet at the time.
“Sadly, in a tragic turn of events, my sister lost her life on the same day.
“I feel blessed that I was able to spend the last week with my mom before she passed.”
“I appreciate everyone’s love and support and respect for my privacy during this impossible time,” she concluded.
