STRICTLY star Wynne Evans has found love again — and his girlfriend helped him lose weight in preparation for the dance show.
The Sun can reveal the 52-year-old opera singer, famous for starring in the Go Compare TV adverts, is dating events manager and fitness fan Liz Brookes, 50.
Wynne has previously said that the split from his wife of 16 years, Tanwen — the mum of his two kids — left him clinically depressed and he ballooned to 22 stone.
Now he has lost six stone thanks to going for runs with Liz, who has been supporting him in the Strictly audience.
A source said: “Wynne and Liz met at an event and are taking things slow, but he’s excited about where the relationship might go. He is in a much better place now than when his marriage ended.
“It’s like night and day — and he is so happy.”
Welshman Wynne — partnered with Katya Jones on the BBC show — has been dating Cardiff-based Liz since earlier this year.
He said he struggled with dating apps when he was single and many women only wanted to meet him because he was Gio Compario from the comparison site adverts.
On his mental state following his break-up, he said: “I had very dark thoughts and very dark days where I would contemplate all sorts of terrible things.
“I think it’s obvious what I’m saying, but I don’t want to say it because some people find it distressing. I’m fine to talk about it now, but at that time nothing would help me.
“I realised I wanted my life to be over and I did some stupid things.”
Wynne was prescribed anti-depressants and, combined with a fitness and lifestyle overhaul, he managed to turn his life around, even winning BBC One’s Celebrity MasterChef last year.
He was joint fourth in Strictly’s second round last weekend.
