An on-board source told us: “This is a disgrace, we’re stuck somewhere between Lockerbie and Motherwell with no idea if we’re going to make it home tonight.
“The driver has no idea, the conductor has no idea – all they know is a train has broken down somewhere.
“Passengers are worried sick that they’ll miss the last trains and busses from Glasgow – if we even get home tonight.
“One passenger has run out of medication while others are short on food and drink.”
The rail provider has been bombarded with online outrage and is urging passengers to speak with station staff in Glasgow to arrange alternative transportation home.
However one rail-user has blasted the lack of communication on the stranded service despite Avanti posting an online update.
They said: “Every time the driver comes on to give us an update we’re left disappointed as he has no update to give us.
“It’s a complete joke, everyone is sick and tired of it and just want home to their beds.”
An Avanti spokesman said: “Due to a fault on a train between Lockerbie and Motherwell, the line towards Glasgow Central is blocked.
“The line is currently still blocked towards Glasgow Central due to a fault on a train.
“The train has been declared a failure after attempts to rectify the fault.
“Arrangements are now being made to rescue the stranded train.”
